Why I Love This Strawberry Banana Blueberry Smoothie Recipe

As a home gardener on a small farm, I grow strawberries and blueberries. We have been blessed with bountiful crops (especially blueberries) for the past few years, and I love making the most of the bounty. I like to make jam, syrup, berry gelato, cobblers, smoothies, and crisps. Plus, I often have ripe bananas that get overlooked. When that happens, I gladly peel the fruit and place it in a zipped bag in the freezer for future use. This smoothie recipe is a win for everyone, but especially for those who are watching their sugar or fat intake.  If you want to add other ingredients and don’t care about the sugar, this recipe is very versatile. Change it up to suit your needs, and enjoy a bit of summer in a cup no matter what time of year it is. Read on for the easy recipe!

Strawberry Banana and Blueberry Smoothie Equipment

The equipment needed for this recipe is simple. Here are the basics;

colander for rinsing the blueberries

1 strawberry huller (optional, but it’s inexpensive and easy to use, one of my favorite small kitchen gadgets)

1 liquid measuring cup for the apple juice

1 measuring cup for the yogurt

1 blender (it can be just a basic kitchen blender, no fancy brand needed)

Strawberry Banana and Blueberry Smoothie Ingredients

1 cup fresh strawberries, rinsed, hulled, and halved

2 cups frozen blueberries

1 frozen banana (peel it before you freeze it)

1/4 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt (you can also use vanilla or berry flavored yogurt if you are not concerned about the sugar)

1 cup of sugar-free spiced apple cider mix (regular apple juice is fine as well, if you are not concerned about the sugar)

Strawberry Banana and Blueberry Smoothie Instructions

Rinse, hull, and halve the strawberries.

Measure out the blueberries, place in the colander, and rinse.

Mix 1 envelope of sugar-free spiced cider mix with 1 cup of water.

Place the berries, the banana (broken into chunks), the yogurt, and the apple cider in a blender.

Pulse and blend the ingredients. I sometimes have to take the lid off and push the ingredients around a bit with a long-handled spoon for adequate blending.

Pour into cups and serve immediately. Makes 4 cups. Enjoy!

Strawberry Banana and Blueberry Smoothie Variations

Add 1 6-ounce container of strawberry, blueberry, or vanilla yogurt for extra sweetness. Substitute one cup of apple juice for the sugar-free apple cider. Substitute another kind of juice, such as orange juice, for the apple cider. Add an extra frozen banana for a thicker smoothie. There are many possibilities!
